trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright

dear trick-or-treat writer!

Thank you for offering any of these fandoms. I'm so excited to see what you come up with! I tried to make this as skim-friendly as possible. I get...really excited when it comes to letter writing, so below is a page jump so you can hop to whatever fandom we matched on quickly.

GENERAL TRICKS | GENERAL TREATS | GENERAL DISLIKES
GLUE (TV) | SPARTACUS SERIES (TV) | ATLANTIS (UK TV)

( quick note )
Feel free to pick and choose aspects of the prompts that you like, and disregard or change whatever doesn’t work for you. If you come up with an idea that’s similar to a prompt I left below, but not quite on the nose, go for it! If ¾ of a prompt really works for you, but the final ¼ doesn’t, only work with the bit that does! Mixing and matching is also completely fine.
⟿The top level prompt suggestions are general ideas. Know what you want to write now? Great, carry on.

Not sure what to write? Mind swimming with too many possibilities? Not enough possibilities? Questions and ideas following the top-level are here for you, just in case you need more prompting.

Don't feel like you have to spend a bunch of time on setting up a universe or plot. I already know what 'verse I requested or what situation I've set up in a prompt, so please feel free to jump right in the "middle" of a story/in media res and start right when stuff is getting interesting. There's no reason to build up a whole world for an exchange with such a short minimum word count, so if you don't want to, just don't!

TRICKS!
⟿ Vampires, ghosts, werewolves, zombies, shape-shifters, demons, aliens, superheroes, villains, barbarians, wizards: it’s all fine with me.

⟿ I love me some fucked up, unhealthy relationships. Codependent relationships, dependent personality disorders being exploited by someone with a histrionic personality disorder, obsessive relationships: you can be giving it all to me. I love when a character is willing to literally let the world burn, should the world try to come between them and the person they love (romantically or platonically!).

I love them doing questionable things or neglecting themselves in order to make their partner happy. I don't need it sugar coated or spun to make it seem healthy and alright, in fact I love it when the characters know — fully or merely suspecting — that what they're feeling, to the level they're feeling it at, isn't healthy, but they enjoy it so much they wouldn't even think of getting help or trying to back off. Them being equally, fuck-up-ed-ly invested in their relationship is what I live for.

⟿ When it comes to ratings, anything from G-rated schmoop to NC-17 PWP sex is alright in my book.

⟿ I'm not requesting art this time around, but I know we've made this exchange have a strong treating culture and so if any artists are interested in turning one of my tl;dr prompts into a beautiful picture, have at it! I like genre scenes — including porn genre; that counts as a thing, right? It's something people do in everyday life. I've taken four Art History classes and yet still art confuses and mystifies me. I'm a mess — or things that look like they could be proudly displayed in the middle of a "chapter", or even as the 'cover' of a comic book, novel, or DVD box, describing any scene that you like. In terms of color palettes and style, I'm into Renaissance Art, Impressionism, Fauvism, Luminism, Surrealism, Baroque, intentionally 'sketchy' and rough looking sketches, and of course practically all the Realistic, comic-book, and chibi styles. Anything with those vibes would be cool to see, but I'm not an artist in any way, shape, or form (although I like coloring books and can make a mean .gif!) so whatever you create will be impressive to me.

⟿ I’m fine with semi-alternative universes or slight changes to canon, so if you want to keep everything the same but except now there’s a paranormal or supernatural element (i.e. ‘it’s all the same except X was the grim reaper the whole time’, ‘they’re all werewolves! and this is how that changes canon’, ‘oh no! Y got possessed by a demon’, or ‘Z sold their soul to the devil in order to make [blah] happen!’) that’s completely fine and really cool.

Complete AUs that are paranormal, or supernatural in nature are also welcome.

⟿ I like slightly fucked up relationships in general, so anything with a power imbalance (i.e. one of them is the devil, the other is a lowly demon, or one of them is a vampire and the other is said vampires food source) or anything along those lines is fine. If you wanted to write a darkfic without paranormal elements and that was just heavy on the unhealthy relationship aspects, go for it.

⟿ General tropes I like that could go along with the possibly creepy/scary/trick-y plots:
angels/demons/gods au, bodyguard/loyalty, soul-bonds, hooker au, amnesia, forced closeness, android/robot au, losing sight/hearing/ability to speak, stuck in isolation together, fake relationships, forced/arranged marriages, conditioning, captivity, slavefic/sexslaves, size differences and power dynamics (feel free to have the "smaller" or more chill/docile dude be more "dominant" or aggressive member of the relationship! always a favorite of my trope inversions), age-gaps (underage is fine), body-swaps, viking/tribe/barbarian/pre-history au.

TREATS!
First and foremost I would like to say that if you want to add in some paranormal or supernatural elements to an otherwise fluffy or domestic fic, I say go for it all the way! I am completely fine with a hybrid tricky-treat of a fic. Blur those lines.

⟿ I really like strong relationships. I am super into reading about how a character's relationships work; their dynamics, how they support one another, how they relate to each other, how they interact [pre-, post-, and during-canon when “offscreen”], where their wants and needs mesh up, where they differ; all that interests me immensely. Keep the focus on them and I’m a happy camper, ship or no ship!

⟿ I love when people are equally invested in whatever they’re doing; completing a mission, building a relationship, putting together ikea furniture! Them putting in the same amount of care and time into what they're doing/building together, and them respecting each other enough not to play games.

Rather than miscommunication causing drama, I love it when bluntness and frankness causes that tension instead! Characters saying what they want or what they've done, point blank, and then leaving it to the other character to decide if they can handle that; quiet characters taking their time and really mulling over their choices before telling the other person what they want: It’s all great.

Anything with those vibes would be cool to see, but I'm not an artist in any way, shape, or form (although I like coloring books and can make a mean .gif!) so whatever you create will be impressive to me.

⟿ I love codas, alternate canons, semi-alternate universes, and canon divergences, and/or slight changes to canon.. I also love established relationships/friendships, and domesticity. If you want to write me slice-of-life that details their routine or daily life, I'll eat that shit up!

⟿ General tropes I like that go along with the whole ‘treat’ theme are:
established relationships, domestic fic, soulmates/soul-bonds, fake relationships/arranged marriages that lead to feelings, body-swaps, bodyguard/loyalty, soul-bonds, hooker au, amnesia, forced closeness, android/robot au, stuck in isolation together, fake relationships, sex before feelings, d/S that’s focused on taking care/being cared for more than pain/humiliation, size differences and power dynamics — feel free to have the "smaller”/younger/more docile dude be more "dominant”/aggressive member of the relationship! always a favorite of my trope inversions —, western/farmer/rancher au, viking/tribe/barbarian/pre-history au.

DISLIKES
⟿ Excessive pain or torture in long/drawn out detail, embarrassment/humiliation, cheating/infidelity, high school or university aus, fics where anything more than about ¼ of the content is epistolary, crossdressing, noncon/rape, excessive angst — where the majority of the fic is sadness and a tiny bit at the end is happy/resolution; if from the outside, as an observer, it's sad but the character(s) living that reality as lives are happy/content/blind to it, then that's fine! I just don't like it when 50% or more of the fic is focused on someone's sadness/angst and how they react or wallow in said angst —, genderswap/temporary gender changes/always-a-[opposite gender].

⟿ Character deaths for major characters are fine, but I’d rather they not “stay dead”. Them dying and turning into a ghost, continuing 'living' on in heaven/hell, being reborn, turning into a vampire, turning into a zombie, or any other thing that means that they still exist in some manner post-death is great. As long as the story doesn't end with "[…] and they died, the end", it's perfect.

⟿ Not a fan of crossovers, but fusions are gleefully welcome. If you want to do a fusion of Glue with Atlantis, where James gets sucked into the mythological past and is taken in by Cal, adventurer and general miscreant who knows everyone in the damn city of Atlantis and who's big brother is a math genius — or of Spartacus and Glue, where shy Nasir meets Agron, who helps to bring him out of his shell, that's great. Any way you want to mash them, be my guest.

⟿ It’s fine if you don’t ship the same things as me, but please no breaking up my ships to put them with other people. I’d also like background pairings to be kept to a minimum. Side relationships existing in the background (or canon relationships showing up) are completely alright, but an extended subplot detailing their relationship angst or them getting together will make my eyes glaze over.

⟿ No preference between past and present tense, although I prefer 3rd Person Narration well above all others.

GLUE (TV)
An eight episode E4 series that aired last year, and revolved around the friends (and boyfriend) of the recently-murdered Cal as they try to figure out just how he died and who it was that murdered him, all the while revealing and drudging up their own secrets in the process.

You can watch a James(& Cal)-specific edit of the show on Youtube. The entire series can be seen on Channel4 Player.

I loved the dichotomy between the James and Cal, and how despite how short their time together was, it's easy to imagine them spending all their lives together, and that they just might have met their 'soulmate relatively early in their lives; Cal brought out the reckless, explorative side in James, and James helped to ground Cal in reality. James was practical and steady, yet you could see that he had his passions and is the type to throw himself into something fully once he's set his mind to it.

He's careful, and he feels so much, but he's not static. It'll take him a little while to set his mind on something, but he'll get there! It was a good thing that he had Cal in his life when he did. It's also good that he has a best friend that cares about him so much too. How can anyone not love them some James!
♡ I ship Cal/James or James/OMC.
⇝ James is forever 'haunted' by Cal.

What's James' life like with Cal hovering around him all the time? Do they continue to date? Can James still touch, kiss, and everything-else with him? Are people always asking James when he'll settle down, not understanding that he always has Cal to come home to each night?

Does James date other people and Cal acts as a guardian-angel of sorts, vetting James' boyfriends an looking out for him?
⇝ I'd love something about James not wanting to be without Cal, so he dabbles with the supernatural to get Cal back. What are the repercussions of James selling his soul — or bartering away one of his senses: eyesight or speech? — in order to bring Cal back to life.

How does Cal react? Is he happy? Sad? Is Cal not "Cal" anymore, but some kind of demonic hybrid? How does James react to that?
⇝ Rebirth trope.

I'm a sucker for rebirth. I'd love something about a reborn Cal, freshly turned 14 (or 16 or 18, whatever you're comfortable with), searching for James and showing up on James' doorstep. Cal's probably ready to pick up where they left off, but James is 14(/16/18) years older. Is James excited to pick up too? Is he worried about the age gap? Has he finally moved on? Has he never moved on? Is there an OMC boyfriend in the picture who is very confused?
⇝ Cal doesn't die.

Alternate Canon where Cal doesn't guy but is instead in a coma, or something? All those dirty little secrets still come out, but eventually Cal does wake up. Does James take care of him personally? How does that change their relationship? Does Eli still obsess over Cal? Is he always a threat over their shoulder?

Does Cal merely getting hurt not lead to any reveals at all? How does James and Cal's relationship progress? Is Eli still an issue?
⇝ James getting on with his life post-series.

Does he go to uni? Does he take over the farm? Is there a hot farm hand/village lad in his future?

SPARTACUS SERIES (TV)
A three series (+ a miniseries prequel) epic about the well known Thracian gladiator who led a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic and gained infamy in the process.

You can watch an edit of all Agron (&Nasir's) scenes starting from series two onwards here or here. The entire show can be seen on Netflix.

Agron is my favorite everything. I love how gleefully gay he is; how cuddly he is; how forward he is; how he needs women to take a step back, please, and catch a clue, not least because they scare and confuse him; how his body is on point; how loyal he is; how lame he is; how cocky he can get; how once he's decided he likes you he's got your back, forever and always; how completely done with the idiots he calls friends he is (no seriously, Agron being like 'do you see this shit?!' is my life); how anyone he loves instantly becomes his BFF and blood-brother; how he expresses every single emotion he feels; how silly he is; how good he looks having sex; how he learns from his mistakes and is strong enough to admit when he was wrong.
♡ I ship Agron/Nasir, Agron/Duro, and/or Agron/Nasir/Duro. If in a world/'verse where there is no Nasir, Agron/(OMC/Spartacus/Caesar/Tiberius) is welcome.

⇝ Any German (or Roman) folk tales applied to Agron; If you want to include Duro, then maybe the two of them as the Brothers Grimm?

How many supernatural dudes does Agron fall into bed with? How many times does Agron thinking with his dick heart get him(/them) into trouble? We all know his priorities.

Fun tales could be Agron kissing the frog price, Agron hooking up with seven short dudes, Agron and the (were)wolf, Agron crashing a ball and hooking up with a prince (and leaving a shoe behind as a forgetmenot), Agron meeting a doppelgänger Prince and swapping lives with him for a bit. The possibilities are endless! Insert Nasir, Duro, and/or OMCs however you see fit.
Berserker Agron.

Agron was an amazing warrior from the first time that he walked into the Ludus. Does he have a natural Berserker state that he was born with? Did he make a deal with the gods for such a gift? Does he consider it a curse? Is it caused by drugs?

If you'd like to include Duro, how does he feel about it? Does he take care of his brother during these states? Does he know how to calm Agron down? Does he let Agron take out his hysteria on him? What was it like while they were still in the Rhineland? Does anything change at the ludus?

If you'd like to include Nasir, how does he feel about it? Is Agron's bloodlust at the start of S2 so bad because he no longer has Duro helping to calm him down, so he was in a near-constant Berserker state? Does Agron teach Nasir how to handle him once they get together? Is Nasir afraid of Agron when he's in his Berserker mindset, or does it turn him on?
⇝ The Agron that returned from the Roman's torture isn't the same Agron that left.

Zombie!Agron, Vampire!Agron, Reaper!Agron, Werewolf!Agron, Demon!Agron? Either something turns Agron into a being that can't be killed by mere fleshly wounds, or Agron makes a deal with something less than savory in order to return to Nasir's arms. How does that change their happily ever after?

Agron said that a domestic life wasn't in the cards for him. Does his new supernatural lifestyle/job mean that their 'domestic' isn't like anyone else's and means it isn't as boring as he feared?
⇝ Agron & Duro are never captured — and stay in the Rhineland all their lives.

What's life like for them? What kind of guy does Agron settle down with? Another warrior? The blacksmith? A baker? Duro?

Are Agron & Nasir's fates so connected that the gods find a way to bring them together in the end? I could see a slave ship veering too-close to Rhineland's shores (Nasir & his dominus coming to inspect Rome's efforts into expanding into that area? Nasir as just one of the many slaves being sent to stays Roman soldiers stationed in the Rhineland?) and Agron, ever itching for a fight, take it down and free the slaves inside?

I love language barriers, so if Agron has little or no understanding of Latin(/the common tongue) and he and Nasir have to find a way to interact/speak/slowly learn to understand one another? Yes please.
⇝ If you've seen it, maybe a fusion with The Eagle (2011)?

Nasir talks his dominus into saving/buying slave!Agron (and Duro)? OMC!Roman Soldier (or Caesar? Or Tiberius?) buys Agron and they hit it off?

Aaron and Nasir as members of two tribes (who constantly have to team up + push back Roman forces?) and are sweet on one another?

Maybe [insert OMC Roman here, or pull from any of the nominated Romans, like Tiberius or Sabinus or Caesar] takes slave!Agron, who cannot stand him, on a quest to retrieve the symbol of his family's honor. They get themselves caught by the Seal Tribe and pull the old role-swicharoo routine. Does Seal Prince!Nasir take a liking to Agron, who so impressively enslaved one of those Roman scumbags?

ATLANTIS (UK TV)
A (sadly) two-series fantasy-adventure show inspired by Greek mythology, not least the legend of Atlantis & the shenanigans of Jason and the Argonauts.

You can watch the entire series on Hulu or BBC iPlayer.

Pythagoras is a gem that is too good for this world. If only we'd all known he was such a cutie; we'd all have done much better in geometry.

I love that he takes every single thing in stride. Hot dude shows up on his balcony and he humps saves him first, asks questions later. He's been friends with Hercules his entire life somehow, which doesn't make sense until you se how all his close friendships end up. Then it all starts making perfect sense.

He created his own family and he'd do anything for them, which he proves time and time again. Despite Hercules and Jason being the most well known heroes, it's always Pythagoras who jumps into things headfirst, even in areas where he's all but sure to fail. Jason and Hercules have their moments where the the epitome of Reluctant Hero, but Pythagoras is, well, # Ride or Die. For all that he isn't physically strong, he's the backbone of their three-unit family and is oftentimes the well from which their strength is drawn.

Then there's his love life. His brOTP with Jason is great, but we all know there were events that could have turned it into more. It's alright that it didn't though, because his and Icarus' apparently years-old friendship gave us everything we would ever need, ever. So there is that.
♡ I ship Pythagoras/Icarus and Pythagoras/Jason.

⇝ Magical Pythagoras (and/or Merlin (BBC) fusion.)

We all know Atlantis' hope was to capture the Merlin demographic. Why not go all-out?

[John Hurt voice] In a land of myth, and a time of magic…the destiny of a great kingdom rests on the shoulders of a young boy. His name — Pythagoras!
⇝ Super-Villain Pythagoras AU

He's no Pasiphae or anything, but (chaotic-good? lawful evil?) Pythagoras does his experiments when he feels like it and damn the consequences. He may have a love/hate relationship with local superhero Jason (lawful good?) and/or Icarus (neutral good?). His best friend and chaotic-neutral Hercules may or not take bets on if they're gonna kill each other or fuck.

You can go foe-yay or have them being nemesis on the streets, husbands in the sheets. Or darkfic dub con. That is always an option.
⇝ Pythagoras gets transported into the future.

Pythagoras time warps into the future rather than Jason being sucked into the past. Hercules can come with.

Does Jason accept Pythagoras(/Hercules) as easily as the pair accepted Jason? Does Pythagoras have some huge quest (maybe he'll be the one to solve the Big Bang or dark/anti-matter questions? That brain + modern equipment = crazy science shit happening.) or was it a random time hole for no real reason at all? Is he happy in the 21st Century (do he and Jason hit it off in more ways than one? Does he meet Icarus-reborn?) or does he want to go back home? Can he go back home?
⇝ Werewolf pack.

Remember that time Jason was basically a werewolf? What if they're all werewolves?

Alpha wolves, despite popular misconception, are typically the parents. They're the ones who take you in, care for you, and feed you. Pythagoras would be an awesome alpha. The ideal alpha, even! A/B/O is fun, both played straight and sub/inverted, but seeing werewolf au done as actual wolves live suits their little family and the dynamics therein perfectly.

Give me schmoopy, domestic pack days where Pythagoras teases Hercules and Jason. Hercules and Jason getting used to the newly initiated Icarus, who they still aren't sure of and don't know if he'll make a good co-alpha. Pythagoras having to juggle the task of teaching Icarus how to be a good alpha, how not to worry about being a good alpha, and reassuring Hercules and Jason that Icarus won't upset their balance all at the same time.

Pythagoras trying to lure in and tame wild, aggressive (omega) Jason, who is happy and giggly one moment and high-strung and on alert a second later. All he needs is a good home!
⇝ Pythagoras is too good to be real. So what if he isn't?

Pythagoras as an imaginary friend that [Jason/Hercules/Icarus] invented to make them feel better about himself and so that he wasn't so lonely.

Pythagoras as a mass hallucination; everyone knows him, but to them he's a different version for each one. Shoulder to cry on, little brother to tease, someone to love and keep your bed warm at night.

Pythagoras as a demon that slipped into all these nice people's lives and made it so they could barely function without him. Whenever they find themselves not needing him so much — Hercules being more settled with Medusa; Jason falling in love with Ariadne — something terrible happens (death, someone else showing up to make doubt them doubt their feelings) and they find themselves crawling back to old, steady Pythagoras, who is always there for them. Whenever they do something that goes against what Pythagoras wants — like Icarus prioritizing his blood family over love/lust and friendship — everything goes against him until the guilt gets worse and worse and he's back caring about Pythagoras the most, and things magically sort themselves out in the end of the day.
